Going through a divorce is incredibly painful and very difficult to manage. As hard and complex as the process might be, it is important to know exactly what reasons there exist as to why married couples end up separating and getting divorced. Asking ourselves what the main reasons are as to why a marriage fails is difficult to dive into. Nevertheless, below are some of the most common examples:
- Infidelity:
Extramarital affairs are justifiable reasons as to why someone would like to pursue a divorce. A large number of married couples have dealt with infidelity with one form or another. Some have managed to work things out while others have looked for getting a divorce due to a lack of trust and communication with their partner.
- Domestic violence:
Physical and emotional abuse in the household is also considered one of the leading justifications for getting a divorce. The victim typically feels that her/his safety is threatened and that they cannot depend or trust on their partner and his/her irrational, flippant behavior. Things get overly complicated when children are involved due to their safety and well-being.
- Lack of compatibility:
Sometimes the couple simply do not get along due to incompatibility. Perhaps some chemistry was there in the first stages of the relationship but, as time goes by, people change. Some couples grow distant and fall out of love and decide to end their marriage right then and there.
- Addiction:
This can come in many forms. Perhaps one of the spouses is an alcoholic or addicted to drugs, maybe one of them likes to gamble or is addicted to sex. There are various types of addictions and they can take a toll on the marriage. The more a spouse is unwilling to change, the more it starts to negatively affect the marriage. Plus, many of these addictions have tangible, material losses to the marriage, such as a lack of finances.
There are plenty of other reasons, but these are perhaps the most common and sought after causes of what leads to a divorce. Understanding them and knowing can ultimately save a marriage or end them, depending on the work a married couple is willing to put into their relationship.
